Record Setting Four Million Miles without a Truck Accident

August 22, 2014 by Lance M. Sears

truck We all find pride in different things. Some of us show pride in our cooking and our famous family lasagna. Some of us can change a tire in record time.  Others have pride in their lifelong no-ticket streak.

Andres Corona certainly has something to be proud of. The Texas truck driver has driven four million miles on the job without an accident. It is hard to believe this is even possible with the reported highway backups and tragic accidents spattered throughout the news cycle.

In doing this, Corona has set a Texas record.  In actuality, only a few other truck drivers’ nation wide hold this title.

While Corona acknowledged his incredible feat and lifetime accomplishment, he also acknowledged that he had plenty of close calls and almost accidents that not only would’ve wrecked his streak, but caused fatalities. He told KSAT 12 that he even had a near miss with a driver going the wrong way down the highway.  Corona also mentioned that he thinks driving has become more dangerous recently and he has been more prone to the possibility of accidents due to speed limits being raised and careless cellphone usage.

This milestone doesn’t just mean that Andres Corona didn’t crash or mess up, it also means he didn’t cause any delays, fatalities, or personal injuries.

How do we help more drivers like Corona achieve this milestone? Accidents are not just caused by truck drivers, of course, all of us having the possibility to cause one. However, as employees earning money by driving, it is tempting to push the limits and drive irresponsibly to boost paychecks.

As we mentioned before in a previous blog post, Congress is currently discussing changing the regulations for truck drivers’ hours.

At Sears and Associates, P.C., we want to know your thoughts. Do you think changing these hours will have an effect and allow more drivers like Andres Corona to reach these milestones?
